Aldo Nova-2.0 ©2018 MRI Records
Been quite a while since we heard from Aldo Nova. His first record was one of the very first albums I bought on Vinyl when it was released decades ago. It helped form who I am and my taste for music for many years to come. This release is a collection of songs from the first album modernized to today's sounds. I think the songs are done pretty well. Initially I was a bit mixed on the new version of 'Fantasy' due to it sounding a bit more busy, but it has grown on me much more since the first time. There is also a new song on the album titled 'I'm A Survivor'. I absolutely love the vibe in this song. Aldo Nova has a real gift for doing a variety of different sounds and this song is amazing. I am a fan of most of his catalog including 'Nova's Dream' which was a different sound for him. This is a very fun record to listen to and hopefully there will be more new stuff soon!

March In Arms-March In Arms ©2018 Records
Self released album from this South Dakota based metal band. The ban's sound is amore of a riff heavy power metal sound. Similarities in sound would include a touch of Metallica, some Volbeat to a point and maybe a touch of Five Finger Death Punch. It's good heavy stuff with a solid raw energy to it. There are a couple of live tracks with this so you can compare how well the studio stuff translates to a live sound. As mentioned, this album has a wall of guitar sound to it. Good metal records usually have this element and the riffs and big and catchy. You'll be headbanging to this stuff for sure. This is a very respectable album in my opinion. Content is good and the tracks tend to be easy to remember. The bands sound is pretty confident as well. This album is a reissue after being issued later last year. It's a good record that you should be able to find on digital now.

Disturbed-Evolution ©2018 Reprise Records
Disturbed returns with the their latest album 'Evolution'. The album starts off in typical Disturbed fashion with the single 'Are You Ready?'. From there you get a few tracks that carry this vibe, but overall I felt this album was a bit more melodic in nature. It's a good record, just a bit different than the earlier records. This will probably play out in an interesting manner. The die hard fans may be a bit upset. More recent fans, especially those who were into the cover of 'The Sound of Silence' may find even more to like here. It's definitely a mix of intensities that show many different personalities to the band. There is quite a bit of content on the deluxe version which is the version I picked up. You get a live version of 'The Sound of Silence' that features Myles Kennedy as well. There are 14 tracks on this version total. Be sure to check it out for yourself!

Amaranthe-Helix ©2018 Spinefarm Records
The new album from Amaranthe continues to show the band evolve. Sure, you get the core sound from the band that you always get, but they seem to push the boundaries a little more with each album. Take the track '365' for example. It still sounds Amaranthe in sound, but has a bit of a different feel to it. New to the band on clean male vocals is Nils Molin who fans of Dynazty will already be familiar with. I think the 3 vocalists work well together on this record. There is a decent amount of energy to this album and it is on par with the previous couple of albums. As usual, they have released some videos via Youtube for fans to check out. You can check out '365' and see the evolution of the band's sound as well as a couple of other tracks that may suit your fancy. I found this album to be fun and will be going back to it from time to time.

Green Death-Hallowmass ©2018 Combat Records
From the heavier side of the spectrum is Iowa based Green Death. The band's recent release is their third to date and shows the band evolving. I've spent a fair amount of time with this album now and like the feel of it. There are heavier tracks such as 'I am Eternal', but there are also some more subdued and darker songs here as well. The band are showing good growth as a band. It's hard to believe that they formed in 2012 as they sound very tight as a unit. The album will appeal to modern metal fans, but does have enough traditional influence to appeal to that type of fan base as well. The band have released a video for 'I am Eternal' which will give new fans a feel for their sound. Keep in mind that this track is one of the more intense tracks on the album, but also one of my personal favorite. This band is a great musical unit and have delivered another solid release!
